I HATE FLYING WITH ALL MY HEART AND SOUL

I hate flying. To be more precise, I detest, abhor, despise, detest, loathe flying. I hate having to sit in airport lounges for hours trying to make small talk with strangers who are politely disinterested. I hate drinking overpriced coffee and eating smelly shit that pass off as sandwiches. There, I have said it. I feel as if I have a load off my shoulders.

Last night, my flight was delayed by 14 hours . (Courtesy : Tropical storms, Kansas style)
Delays happen to everyone. I know. But, I seem to have had more than my fair share of delays, somehow. Here is the lowdown :

Last night (14 hours due to Tropical weather)
Dec 2004 (8 hours - holiday flyers)
Dec 2003 (30 hours - The Air India Effect)
Sep 2002 (6 hours - holiday flyers)
Sometime in 2000 (6 hours - The door of the plane froze and they couldn't get it to open for 6 hours)

Come to think of it, 1 out of 3-4 flights I have been in are delayed.

Am I complaining for nothing ? Have any of you had worse experiences ? I would love to know.

well, i can understand the sentiments and the good mood that might have been destroyed ruthlessly due to this most recent delay in the flight. But, face it, as you only say, delays occur to everyone. Can you imagine life without flights in this country. If you will try to compare daily trains in India with daily number of flights in US and their respective timely service, you will be amazed and will stop to complaint.
In order to be careful and have les painful experience in future, here are some pointers:
Choose your trip times (at least domestic) by looking at the weather. Try to find out flight times online before reaching the airport. Keep some interesting reading material to overcome dependency on politely disinterested people, who dont give a damn to your small talks.
Keep your cell phone charged and find a confidante, who can share the moments with you. May consider having a laptop, where you can either play games, or now most airports have wi-fi, so you can browse. I fnothing, you can finish the proect report, which may be giving you tension dut to untimely departure.

If nothing works, and you still detest flying, them take a pledge not to fly again and do tell me how long could you sustain without necessary evil.

Well, I book my flights 1.5 to 2 months ahead of time. Our weather forecasts are not that advanced yet.

Most of my delays were announced just arround boarding time. Also, how would checking online save you while taking a connection ?

It has to be really really interesting if I have to read it for more than 4 hours :-)

Now, that is good advice.

take a pledge not to fly again
Wish, I could do that
